Ten witnesses and one official GWR adjudicator oversaw the counting of the participants, which were all students, teachers and parents. The original count was 384 but 16 participants were identified as not having sung the whole way through the song “Waterloo”, and were therefore discounted from the total.

One of the world´s rarest mammals, it is classed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN, and is entirely restricted to a single 3-km2 (1.1-m2) area within Queensland´s Epping Forest National Park. The total population is currently estimated at approximately 90 individuals.
