Fastest lift (elevator)

Two high-speed lifts installed by Toshiba Elevator and Building Systems (Japan) in Taipei 101, the world’s tallest building situated in Taipei, Taiwan, have a maximum speed of 1,010 m/min (3,313 ft/min), equivalent to 60.6 km/h (37.6 mph). The lifts take just 40 seconds from ground level to the 89th floor, situated at 382 m (1,253 ft), and have atmospheric pressure regulatory systems to avoid discomfort (ears ‘popping’) for the occupants. In addition the lifts are streamlined to reduce wind noise.

First bioluminescent pigs

The world’s first fully bioluminescent, transgenic pigs were born in 2005, created by a scientific team from Taiwan University’s Department of Animal Science and Technology. They added DNA from bioluminescent jellyfish to approximately 265 pig embryos, which were in turn implanted into eight different sows. First man-made bioluminescent fish

Created in 2001 by H.J. Tsai, a professor of fisheries science at National Taiwan University, subsequently sold by the Taipei-based Taikong Corporation, and dubbed Frankenfish, the world’s first man-made bioluminescent fish are green-glowing specimens of the zebra fish, a popular aquarium species, whose bioluminescence is due to the introduction of jellyfish DNA. The highest score in a figure skating free dance (ice dance) is 103.02, and was achieved by Meryl Davis and Charlie White (both USA) at the ISU Four Continents Championships in Taipei, Taiwan on 18 February 2011. This is the highest score for a free dance in ice dancing since the compulsory dances were eliminated from competition in the 2010/2011 season. The highest score in a figure skating short dance (ice dance) is 69.40, and was achieved by Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir (both Canada) at the ISU Four Continents Championships in Taipei, Taiwan on 17 February 2011. This is the highest total score for a short dance (ice dance) since the ice dancing format was changed with the elimination of the compulsory dances in the 2010/2011 season. Largest handbag

The largest handbag measures 5.2 m (17 ft) high, 6.88 m (22 ft 6 in) long and 2.6 m (8 ft 6 in) deep and was created by Jean Dah Enterprises Co. Ltd. (Tawian) in Taipei, Taiwan, on 15 September 2012. The bag was made from polyester and is an outsized to scale replica of a regular sized hand bag Jean Dah Enterprises manufacture.

Largest aluminium can of drink

The largest aluminium can of drink had a volume of 8,460 litres (1,860 gal) and was made by the Vitalon Food Co. Ltd (Taiwan) and displayed at the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Plaza, Taipei, Taiwan on 2 June 2002. The can of drink was a scaled-up version of Vitalon Food’s Super Supau sports drink. The can measured 4.67 m (15.32 ft) tall, 2.32 m (7.61 ft) wide and weighed 4,400kg (9,700 lb when empty.

Largest display of lanterns

The largest display of lanterns in a single venue was 47,759 and was achieved by Tainan County Government at Solar City in the ‘Prayer for Peace’ area of Tainan Science Park in Tainan, Taiwan, on 24 February 2008. The dimension of the area is: 250 m X 100 m = 25,000 m² (820 ft 2 in * 328 ft 1 in = 269,096.68 ft²)
