The exercise is where the working leg is raised from the hip into the air and brought down again with both knees kept straight. This must be done with apparent ease, the rest of the body remaining quiet. Grands battements can be taken devant, derrière and à la seconde.
Veronica Dean (South Africa) performed 19 bungee jumps in one hour at Bloukrans River Bridge, South Africa, on 9 May 2003. The bungee cord used was approximately 36 m (118 ft) long. At the time of the attempt, the Bloukrans River Bridge was the site of the world’s highest commercial bungee jump (i.e. one open on a daily basis) operated by Face Adrenalin.

The event was organised as part of the Vodacom Challenge football tournament before a match between the Orlando Pirates and the Kaizer Chiefs at the new (built for WC 2010) Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. 300 volunteers were used as marshalls to do the counting and the Kaizer Chiefs won the game
