On 23 May 2003 a total of 207,979 pupils from 1,381 schools across Switzerland took part in a simultaneous orienteering event organised by the Swiss Orienteering Association.
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is an international project to study matter by emulating conditions just a few billionths of a second after the Big Bang. It is located in the 27 km-long (16.7 km) circular tunnel at the CERN laboratory, Geneva, Switzerland, that previously housed the Large Electron Positron Collider. The record for the greatest vertical height ascended by climbing stairs is 18,585 m (60,974 ft 4 in) and was set by Kurt Hess (Switzerland) who climbed the 45 m Esterli Tower in Lenzburg, Switzerland, and descended by foot 413 times on 5-6 October 2007.
The most nationalities in a swimming pool is 82 and was achieved by Les Roches International School of Hotel Management (Switzerland), in Bluche, Switzerland, on 8 September 2012. All the participants were students at Les Roches International School of Hotel Management. They provided their passports as proof of their nationality.
As of 3 March 2012, Emil and Liliana Schmid (Switzerland) have covered 665,712 km (413,653 miles) in their Toyota Land Cruiser since 16 October 1984, crossing 172 countries and territories in the process. The Schmid’s were only able to travel through four more countries in 2009 due to the time it took to get permits and cover the cost of freights. The most expensive bottle of wine sold at auction is £192,000 ($304,375), which was paid for a bottle of 1947 French Cheval-Blanc, and sold at Christie’s, Geneva, Switzerland on 16 November 2010. The bottle was sold to a private collector smashing the previous estimates. The wine is of Bordeaux variety.
As of 13 August 2012, Roger Federer (Switzerland) has earned the most prize money in men’s tennis, with $72,918,077. Federer first gained an Association of Tennis Professionals’ (ATP) ranking in September 1997 and won his first ATP tournament in Milan in 2001.
