The largest collection of handmade aeroplanes belongs to John Kalusa (USA) who has created 5,737 wooden aeroplanes since 1936. The collection is currently housed in the library of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott, Arizona, USA. The models in John’s collection are built to a 1/18-inch-to-a-foot scale to ensure that all aircrafts have the exact size relationships to one another. Carsten Tews (Germany) has 1,563 different mobile phones, as of 23 February 2010, which he has collected since 1998. The oldest mobile phone he owns is a 33 year old TEKADE BSA 31.
Chandra Mohan (India) has 527 different miniatures of landmarks from 70 countries, as of May 2011, which he has been collecting since 2002. Mr Mohan who currently lives in Dubai bought his first miniature landmark, Washington Monument, in Washington DC, USA in 2002. His collection includes some of the world famous monuments such as the Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal and Great Wall of China.
Christoph Bermpohl (Germany) has 1,030 different miniature champagne bottles, as of July 2011, which he has been collecting since 1993. All of his miniature champagne bottles are 0.2 litre bottles (also called quarter-bottles).
Nikunj R. Vagadia (India) has amassed a collection of 258 different miniature books since 1988, as of 22 November 2009. His smallest miniature book measures 19 x 27 mm (0.7 x 1 in) and the largest 47 x 55 mm (1.8 x 2.1 in). His collection includes a miniature book of ‘Shreemad Bhawag Gita’ which was printed in 1901, and a miniature autobiography of Gandhi plated with 24 carats gold.
Birgit Berends (Germany) had amassed a collection of 11,062 different penguin-related items, as of 14 March 2011. Birgit started her collection at the age of 18, inspired by the animated series Pingu, although her very first penguin dates back to her days in elementary school.
