On 9 June 2008, the world’s largest cannabis drug haul was made in Afghanistan. Worth some £225 million and weighing 237 tonnes (261.25 tons) – the approximate equivalent of 30 double-decker buses – and occupying six large trenches covering an area the size of two football pitches, the cannabis was later destroyed by Harrier fighter aircraft from the Royal Air Force’s coalition forces.

The eardrum of the gorilla (Gorilla gorilla) measures approximately 97 mm2, making it the largest of any living creature. The human eardrum, by comparison, is just 62 mm2.
The largest eagle in the world is Steller’s Sea Eagle (Haliaeetus pelagicus), which weighs 5-9 kg (11-20 lb) and has a wing-span of 2.2-2.45 m (7 ft 2 in-8 ft 0.3 in). Although it breeds mainly in Russia it has also been located in Korea and Japan. In Russia this eagle is a protected species and in Japan is considered a national symbol.
