Longest journey by a coffee-powered car

In March 2010 a 1988 Volkswagon Scirocco was driven 337 km from London to Manchester (UK) powered by coffee. The modified car works by heating the coffee granules in a charcoal fire, when then break down into carbon monoxide and hydrogen. The gas is then cooled and filtered before the hydrogen is combusted to drive the engine. ‘Car-puccino’ can reportedly reach 60 mph and achieved 1 mile per 56 espressos. The process works because coffee granules contain a small amount of carbon.

Longest journey by motorcycle (Distance)

Emilio Scotto of Buenos Aires, Argentina completed the longest ever journey by a motorcycle, covering over 735,000 km (457,000 miles) and 214 countries and territories, from 17 January 1985 to 2 April 1995. This is classed as a single journey because he didn’t return to his country of departure until the end.

The longest journey by a fire engine is 50,957 km (31,663 miles) long and was achieved by Stephen Moore (UK), who started his journey from Greenwich, UK, on 18 July 2010 and finished it at the same place, on 10 April 2011. Longest journey by mouth controlled motorised wheelchair

The longest continuous journey by mouth controlled motorised wheelchair is 28,000 km (17,398 miles) and was achieved by Chang-Hyun Choi (South Korea) between 10 May 2006 and 6 December 2007. Chang Hyun Choi, who is affected by cerebral palsy and is paralysed from the neck down, travelled at a maximum speed of 13 km/h (8 mph) across 35 countries in Europe and the Middle East.

The longest journey on a 50cc scooter was 12,441.29 km (7,730.66 mi) by Claudio Torresan (Italy) who travelled from Shumen, Bulgaria to Almaty, Kazakhstan between 25 May and 25 November 2010. Countries Claudio travelled to included Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The longest journey in an excavator is 5127.22 km (3,185.9 miles) and was achieved by Neil Smith (USA) on his journey from Tybee Island, Georgia to Ontario, California between 26 March and 20 April 2010. The excavator used in the attempt was a JCB 3CX Backhoe. The record was attempted to raise funds for Haiti.
