Longest-standing maths problem (current)

Since the 1995 proof of Fermat’s Last Theorem, a problem which stood for 365 years, the current longest-standing maths problem is the conjecture posed by Christian Goldbach (1690-1764), a Russian mathematician, in 1742. Goldbach’s Conjecture states that every even positive integer greater than 3 is the sum of two (not necessarily distinct) primes. No one has succeeded in proving or disproving the validity of this conjecture in 257 years. The longest-running medical advice programme on television is ‘Vaidaya Hamuwa’ hosted by Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena (Sri Lanka) and has been regularly broadcast for 14 years 7 months as of April 2011. Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena is also an eminent politician in Sri Lanka, being a former member of parliament and now a senior member of the current opposition United National Party in the country.

Marco Ferrera (USA) achieved a whistle measuring 125 dB at 2.5 m (8 ft 3 in) away in the Deadroom at Schtung Music Studios, Santa Monica, Califormia, USA on 5 March 2004. The level is comparable to an air raid siren!

Loudest siren

The Chrysler air raid sirens are the loudest sirens ever constructed, capable of producing 138 decibels at a distance of 100 ft (30 m). The sirens are so loud that a normal person would be deafened within 60 m (200 ft) of one during operation. The sirens were introduced as the official warning siren for US cities in 1952. Loudest scream by a crowd (indoors)

The loudest scream by a crowd (indoors) is 131.6 dBA and was achieved by the audience of FAMA’s concert at Hong Kong International Trade & Exhibition Centre in Hong Kong, China, on 6 September 2009. The event was organised by PrimeCredit Limited. There were about 1000 paricipants, who were the audience of a concert by FAMA.
