The fastest marathon dressed as a lifeguard was 3 hr 44 min 33 sec by David Bayley (UK) at the 2011 Virgin London Marathon in London, UK, on 17 April 2011. Lifeguard costume required red lifeguard shorts, yellow lifeguard t-shirt, and to carry a red flotation device (either tube or buoy) and whistle around the neck.

Nun costume required white coif, black veil covering, and the full scapular apron (i.e. costumes in which the apron is cut off at the knees would not be accepted). Other accessories such as rosary beads are optional at the participant’s discretion.

David’s record was one of 30 successfully broken and verified onsite by Guinness World Records at the 2014 Virgin Money London Marathon.
