Fastest multihull vessel to row the Atlantic east to west (“Trade Winds I” route)

On board the trimaran Hallin Marine, David Hosking, Chris Covey, Paddy Thomas, Naomi Hoogesteger, Justin Johanneson and Jack Stonehouse (all UK) rowed the Atlantic east to west on the “Trade Winds I” route from San Miguel, Tenerife, in the Canary Islands to Barbados, West Indies, in a record 31 days 23 hr 31 min between 6 January and 7 February 2011. In all, the crew covered 2,563 nautical miles (4,746.67 km; 2,949.45 miles) at an average overall speed of 3.34 knots (6.19 km/h; 3.84 mi/h).

In January 2011 researchers using the FLASH X-ray laser in Hamburg, Germany, revealed their technique for molecular movie making using ultra-fast X-ray pulses. Their result is a 2-frame movie of a micro-model of the Brandenburg Gate with a time interval of just 0.00000000000005 seconds, or 50 femtoseconds.

The fastest hat-trick scored by an individual ice hockey player in a National Hockey League game is 21 seconds by Bill Mosienko (Canada) playing for the Chicago Blackhawks against the New York Rangers on 23 March 1952.

Fastest music DVD (film to release)

The fastest music DVD (filming to release) is British band Marillion’s DVD entitled ‘Clocks Already Ticking’, which was filmed, edited, and duplicated for sale in 10 hrs 31 mins. The DVD was filmed at the “Marillion Weekender” event at Wolverhampton Civic Hall in Wolverhampton, UK, from 12-13 April 2013. Marillion previously held this record in 2003. Fastest North Sea crossing by double sea kayak (Canoeing)

The fastest crossing of the North Sea in a double kayak is 17 hr 53 min and was achieved by Simon Worsley and Ian Castro (United Kingdom) who completed the Southwold to Zeebrugge route, on 4 July 2009. Simon Worsley was the previous record holder in this event in 1997. Ian Castro and Simon Worsley also both share the record for the single sea kayak crossing of the North Sea.

Fastest North Atlantic kayak crossing (solo)

The fastest solo and unsupported crossing of the North Atlantic by sea kayak was achieved by Peter Bray (UK) in 76 days from 22 June 2001 to 5 September 2001, when he paddled from St John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, to Belderrig, Ireland. His kayak Newt had a cabin 2 m (6.5 ft) long and 70 cm (27.5 in) tall at its highest point. Everything in the cabin had to be tightly strapped down, including Peter in his bed at night.

The fastest oboe player is Jack Cozen Harel (USA), who played ‘Flight of the Bumblebee’ by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov in 26.1 seconds, for an average speed of 589 bpm at Thayer Hall, Los Angeles, USA, on 3 April 2008.

The fastest road race in the world is the Silver State Classic on Nevada’s Route 318, in which drivers frequently maintain average speeds in excess of 305 km/h (190 mph) over the 145 km (90 mile) course. The highest ever average speed in the race was 334.38 km/h (207.78 mph), set by Chuck Shafer and Gary Brockman in May 2000.
