Most searched for sportsman on the internet

Randy Moss, wide receiver for the NFL’s Tennessee Titans (both USA), was the most searched-for male sportsman on the internet in 2010, according to Google. Search traffic peaked in early November when Moss – who had been traded from the New England Patriots to the Minnesota Vikings (both USA) in October – was sensationally waived after less than a month and acquired by the Titans.

Most ships scuttled

On 27 November 1942, during the Second World War, the French fleet in Toulon, Southern France, was scuttled on the orders of the French Admiralty, to avoid capture by the German forces. Of some 73 ships sunk, fifty-seven were major vessels including two battleships, two battle cruisers, four heavy cruisers, two light cruisers, an aircraft transport, thirty destroyers and sixteen submarines. Many support vessels such as tugs, cranes, and small ships were also scuttled.

Süreyya Ulusoy (Turkey) has launched eight ships for the shipping company U.N. Ro-Ro Isletmeleri between May 2000 and April 2005.The vessels were built by Flensburger Schiffbau-Geseellschaft of Flensburg, Germany. Süreyya Ulusoy is the wife of the U.N Ro-Ro Isletmeleri President.

The record for the most sheep shorn, manually with scissors/handblade in 8 hours is 50. János Marton (Hungary) completed his challenge, without any breaks, on 26 April 2003 at Hódmezovásárhely Animal Husbandry Show, Hódmezovásárhely, Hungary. The ewes were fully grown adults.

Most sensitive gamma ray detector

Gammasphere at the Argonne National Laboratory, Illinois, USA is the most sensitive gamma ray ‘microscope’ used in nuclear physics research. It is a cylinder measuring 3 m (10ft) high pierced with 110 gamma ray detectors. These detectors focus inwards to a central target area which is bombarded with ions from a particle accelerator. Gammasphere is so sensitive that it can detect gamma rays produced in these collisions that are 300,000 times weaker than the strongest produced in the collisions.
