The oldest manager in the English football Premier League is Sir Bobby Robson (UK, b. 18 February 1933) who was aged 71 years 194 days when he took charge of Newcastle United for the last time against Aston Villa, at Villa Park, Birmingham, United Kingdom, on 28 August 2004. Aston Villa won the match and Bobby Robson was sacked as Newcastle manager two days later despite finishing 5th the previous season following two consecutive Champions League qualifications. Bernie Barker (USA) ( b. 31 July 1940), began his career in 2000 at the age of 60 as a way to get in shape after recovering from prostate cancer. Since leaving his previous job of selling real estate, he has won over 40 contests. Sadly Mr Barker died on 21 March 2007, aged 66 years 233 days.
The oldest player to score his age is C. Arthur Thompson (1869-1975) of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, who scored 103 on the Uplands course of 5682 m (6215 yd) in 1973.
The Society of American Magicians is the oldest magic society in the world. It was founded in Martinka’s famous magic shop in New York City, USA, on 10 May 1902, with only 24 members.
The world’s oldest family run magic business is Davenports founded in 1898 by Lewis Davenport (UK) at his home on Ryles Road, Plaistow, London, UK in 1903. A shop on Mile End Rd was opened in 1908 and the business was inherited by his son George in 1926. Now run by his granddaughter Betty who took over in 1961, the shop moved to its current location in The Strand in 1984.
The oldest mollusc, indeed the longest-lived non-colonial animal discovered, is a quahog clam Arctica islandica, which had been living on the seabed off the north coast of Iceland until it was dredged by researchers from Bangor University’s School of Ocean Sciences, Wales, UK in 2006. On 28 October 2007, sclerochronologists from Bangor announced that they had studied the annual growth rings in the shell and determined the clam to be between 405 and 410 years old.
