Fastest lugeing speed

Tony Benshoof (USA) reached a speed of 139.39 km/h (86.6 mph) on the 2002 Olympic track at Park City, Utah, USA, on 16 October 2001. The speed was reached during training for the 2001 Luge World Cup Series.

Benshoof was a member of the USA 2001/02 Luge Team and participated at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City.

Timing was done using a ‘speed trap’ consisting of timing lights spaced 5 m apart.
