Fastest run 50 metres (male) (indoors)

5.56, Donovan Bailey (Canada), Reno, Nevada, USA, 9 February 1996

This was equalled but never officially ratified by the IAAF by Maurice Greene (USA) in Los Angeles, California, USA, on 13 February 1999.

Bailey’s mark was set at high altitude. Ben Johnson (Canada) (b. 30 Dec 1961) ran 50 m in 5.55 sec at Ottawa, Canada, on 31 January 1987, but this was invalidated due to his admission of having taken drugs, following his disqualification at the 1988 Olympics.
