First ‘900’ on a skateboard

Skateboard legend Tony Hawk (USA) became the first person to achieve a ‘900’ (two and a half airborne rotations) in competition at the ESPN X Games Five in San Francisco, California, USA on 27 June 1999. The so-called 900 (named after the fact that the skater spins two and a half rotations) is regarded as one of the most difficult tricks in vert skateboarding.

Hawk was successful on his 11th attempt of the evening. He was competiting in the Best Trick competition during the 1999 ESPN X Games. Hawk is looked upon as the patriarch of his sport.
