Largest asteroid impact witnessed in the Solar System

Since the famous impact of comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 on Jupiter in 1994, two further impacts have been discovered on the planet, both by amateur astronomer Anthony Wesley (Australia). The first, on 19 July 2009, was caused by an asteroid around 500 m across. The second, on 3 June 2010, is estimated to have been caused by an asteroid around 8-13 m across.
