Largest cupcake mosaic

The largest cupcake mosaic measures 110.60 m² (1,190 ft² 70.34 in²), and was achieved by Ayer Rajah Community Centre Youth Club (Singapore), at an event held at the Singapore Expo in celebration of the nation’s 47th National Day on 29 July 2012.

The image depicted two hands united to form the shape of a heart with the flag of Singapore enclosed. In the background the outline of one of the country’s most popular landmark’s, the Merlion, was crossed by a river to symbolise the country’s lushness and vitality. The 20,000 cupcakes forming the mosaic were baked on the day preceding the event at the Shatec Institutes school of hospitality, with an additional 2,000 baked at the Expo on the day of the event as a backup. The ingredients included 600 kg (1,323 lb) cupcake mix (flour, caster sugar, custard powder, baking powder, salt, vanilla essence), 350 kg (772 lb) eggs, 300 kg (661 lb) vegetable oil, 700 kg (1,543 lb) fondant. 1,000 youths across Singapore helped preparing the cupcakes and 500 volunteers helped distribute them to the needy after the record verification.
