The largest marimba ensemble consists of 98 participants and was achieved by past and present students of Western Province Preparatory School (South Africa) in Cape Town, South Africa, on 3 February 2014.

The performance lasted 15 minutes, consisted of five pieces and was conducted by Philip Pringle, who at some point was the music teacher for all the participants.
