Largest origami lei

The largest origami lei measured 5,700 m (18,700 ft 9.44 in) in length and was created by Saint-Care Holding corporation (Japan), at the Ishinomaki Sogo Centre ‘Big Bang’, in Ishinomaki, Miyagi prefecture, Japan, on 19 November 2011.

The origami lei is made 177,520 indivudual pieces of origami. The patients and staff of Saint-Care Holding made all the pieces of origami and the members of staff had assembled the lei. There were a total of 8,766 participants that took part in this record attempt and it took 50 days to complete. An independent surveyor was also present during the final measurement of the origami lei.
