The largest serving of salsa weighed 3102 kg (6,840 lb) and was prepared by the University of Illinois (USA) in Champaign, Urbana, Illinois, USA on 23 August 2013.

Preparation for the record breaking salsa began at 4:30 am to ensure it was ready to be served to all new students at convocation, the annual induction for freshmen at the University of Illinois. All ingredients were locally sourced, aside from the lime juice, and ingredients were combined in a 1500 gallon vessel.
