Largest vegetable stew

The largest vegetable stew weighed 2,040 kg (4,497 lb 6.88 oz) and was achieved by Ayuntamiento de Tudela at the Paseo del Queiles, in the city of Tudela, Spain, on 30 April 2011.

The stew consisted of the following vegetables: artichokes, peas, fava beans, green beans, asparagus, onion and garlic, all grown locally. This is a local dish called menestra and was made from 625 kg (1,377 lb 14.24 oz) of artichokes, 500 kg (1,102 lb 4.96 oz) peas, 500 kg (1,102 lb 4.96 oz) fava beans, 250 kg (551 lb 2.56 oz) asparagus, 200 kg (440 lb 14.72 oz) green beans, 100 kg (220 lb 7.36 oz) onion, and 50 kg (110 lb 3.68 oz) garlic. The menestra was made during the XVII Jornadas de las Verduras, (the 17th annual vegetable festival), held in Tudela each year, that celebrates the vegetables grown in the region, known to be some of the country’s best. The pot and crane used to lift it weighed a total of 360 kg (793 lb 10.56 oz). The stew was prepped/cooked by 120 volunteers and took 3 hours and 15 minutes to prep and 3 hours to cook. The weight of the stew, when finished, was 2,400 kg (5,291 lb 1.44 oz). This weight was then subtracted from the weight of the pot and crane and the final weight determined was 2,040 kg (4,497 lb 6.88 oz). It was served to 5,000 festival attendees.
