Longest career as a FIFA referee

The longest career as a FIFA-listed referee is 20 years 10 months by Sarkis Demirdjian (Lebanon) from September 1962 to July 1983.

Demirdjian specialised in officiating matches in Asia, totaling 826 matches throughout his 27-year career. Highlighted matches of his time as a FIFA-listed official included a UEFA World Cup qualifying match won by Germany 6-0 over Cyprus in 1965 and nine AFC/OFC World Cup qualifying matches in advance of the 1974 and 1982 FIFA World Cups. Demirdjian says his most turbulent match was a 1967 contest between Iran and Turkey, in which he issued eight yellow cards and two reds.
