The longest marathon playing badminton, singles, is 24 hr 5 min 32 sec by William ten Zijthoff and Johan Drenthen (both Netherlands) in Beilen, Drenthe, Netherlands, on 23-24 August 2009.
William and Johan raised 2.500 Euros for their attempt, all of which they donated to the Foundation for Handicapped Sports, a Dutch charity. The attempt took place in the municipality’s sports hall and ran from 12:00 on Saturday, 23 August 2009, to 12:05 on Sunday, 24 August 2009. The duo was visited by a town alderman at the beginning and end of the match, which was witnessed by 56 spectators who signed in at various times. Submitting written witness statements were Ms S.T.A. Hendriks, a local court bailiff, and D.P. Kiers, member of the local organization MS-Express, a multiple sclerosis foundation, who was on hand to watch.
