The longest pizza measured 1,141.5 m (3,745 ft 0.85 in) and was created by Marquinetti (aka Jesús Marquina Cepeda) and the Asociación Española de Pizzeros Artesanos (both Spain) in Tomelloso, Spain, on 31 May 2011.
The record attempt took place on the ‘Día de la Región de Castilla de La Mancha’, a day of regional celebrations in the Spainsh region of Castilla de La Mancha. Jesús Marquina Cepeda, more commonly known as “Marquinetti”, is the head of selection for the Spanish Association of Artesan Pizza Makers. He is a world champion in the craft of pizza making. Marquinetti lead the record attempt with the help of over one hundred chefs and helpers.
The length of the pizza was cooked in a specially manufactured oven which was placed over the table on which the pizza was placed and carried over the entire 1 km 141 m of the pizza, cooking it from start to finish. The whole process took approximately 3 hours. The width of the pizza was 36 cm (14.17 in). At the end of the attempt the pizza was cut into slices and sold for 1 Euro each. The money collected was donated to a local charity.
