It was announced in 2009 that As the World Turns (CBS, 1956–) would be cancelled by September 2010, meaning that the UK’s Coronation Street (ITV, 9 December 1960–) would become the world’s longest-running soap opera. Actor William Roache (UK) would then become the longest-serving soap actor, having debuted as Ken Barlow in episode 1.
