The world’s longest running TV variety show is Sábado Gigante (Univision Television Network, USA), which has been broadcast every Saturday evening since 8 August 1962. The show was created and has been continually hosted by Mario Kreutzberger (Chile) or ‘Don Francisco’ as he is known.
Sábado Giante (Giant Saturday) was originally broadcast in Chile (Channel 13, Catholic University Television Corporation of Chile), before moving to its current production site in Miami, Florida, USA where the first US transmission was on 12 April 1986. It is filmed in front of a live audience, has been one of the most successful Spanish-language TV shows in the USA and is aired to millions of viewers throughout the global hispanic community. The 3-hour episodes of Sábado Gigante involves comedy sketches, talent contests, interviews with celebrities and politicians, music and variety acts, all with a format and name that has remained unchanged for over 40 years. Sábado Giante was in the Spanish language Guinness World Records book of 1993 for the longest running TV show in the Americas.
