The longest-running radio programme by the same host is Folksong Festival hosted by Oscar Brand (Canada, b 7 February 1920) which was first broadcast on 9 December 1945 on WNYC Radio and continues to do so today airing on Saturday evenings from 10-11pm on AM 820.
Oscar has never missed a week and has been cited by every mayor of New York since the show’s inception. ‘Folksong Festival’ has also been rebroadcast all over the world, including through Armed Forces Radio.
The show was first listed in the station’s programming schedule on 5 March 1946 but other statements and documentation corroborate the first transmission of the show on 9 December 1945.
Oscar Brand is still hosting the weekly show as of July 2009.
