Longest serving captain in NHL ice hockey

The longest-serving captain of any team in National Hockey League (NHL) history is 20 seasons by Steve Yzerman (Canada) who continuously served as the captain of the Detroit Red Wings (USA) from 1986 to 2006. Yzerman led the Red Wings to three Stanley Cup championships (1997-98, 2002) and had his jersey No. 19 retired in a ceremony at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan, USA on 2 January 2007.
