Longest tenure as a church pianist/organist

The longest career as a church pianist/organist is 73 years and was achieved by Martha Godwin (b. 17 Jan 1927, USA), who has served as the pianist and organist of the Macedonia United Methodist Church in Southmont, North Carolina, USA, since April 1940, at the age of 13 years.

Martha plays the organ at the church’s Sunday service every week, accompanies choir practice and also plays for special music programs such as Easter and Christmas services, weddings and funerals. She has been described as “a faithful member of Macedonia UMS who has served in many other capacities in the church in addition to her service as organist. She is a wonderful person, who is very deserving of this recognition of her service.”
