The record for the most candles on a cake is held by Ashrita Furman in conjunction with members of the Sri Chinmoy Centre (all USA), who placed 48,523 lit candles on a cake to celebrate the 77th anniversary of Sri Chinmoy’s birth in Jamaica, New York, USA, on 27 August 2008.
