By December 2010, there were 131,730 foreign troops from 48 different nations deployed under the auspices of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan to deal with the Taliban insurgency and other problems in that country. The top contributor is the United States, with 90,000 personnel representing just over 68% of the total.
