Eon Production’s Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which opened on 16 April 2002 at the London Palladium, starring Michael Ball (UK), cost £6.2 million (US$8.9 million) to stage, beating the previous record set by Cats of £6 million (then $12.69 million) on 11 May 1981. The Lord of the Rings will smash this record when it opens in August 2005.

The most expensive white wine is the single bottle of Chateau d’Yquem (1811), which was sold for £75,000 ($117,000) by The Antique Wine Company, London, UK, on 18 January 2011. The bottle was bought by Christian Vanneque, owner of SIP Wine Bar in Bali, Indonesia. The bottle was inspected on 29 January 2007 at Chateau d’Yquem, Sauternes, France in the presence of Stephen Williams (Managing Director of The Antique Wine Company), John Salvi (Master of Wine) and Sandrine Garbay (Maitre de Chais).

Most expensive wall calendar sold at an auction

A wall calendar featuring sketches of costume designs for characters from Alice in Wonderland was sold to an anonymous bidder for £36,000 (then US$57,848; €39,804) as part of a fundraising auction held in aid of the Muir Maxwell Trust and the Fettes Foundation (both UK). The auction took place at The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party held on The Queen’s Lawn at Fettes College, Edinburgh, UK on 3 July 2011.

The record for the most faces painted in one hour by an individual was achieved by Gary Cole (USA), sponsored by Grimas, who painted a total of 217 different faces, using a minimum of three colours per face at Almondvale Shopping Centre in Livingston, West Lothian, UK on 1 September 2007.

Craig, Louise I. and Kris adjudicated. In this record only two torches can be used during the attempt. These must be put out and lit again during the event.

The most fish gutted in one hour is 362 fish and was achieved by Julian Pryke (UK) on the set of Guinness World Records Smashed at Pinewood Studios, UK, on 9 April 2009. Julian sat in a bath tub with a chopping board in front of him. In the end, the tub was full of fish gut.

Most football (soccer) Premier League goals

The most goals scored in the English Premiership is 260 by Alan Shearer (UK). Shearer spent his Premiership career with Blackburn Rovers from 1992-96 before moving to Newcastle United in July 1996 for a record fee (at that time) of £15.6 million ($22.4 million), and retiring in 2006. Shearer scored an additional 24 goals for Southampton in the old First Division before it became the Premiership.
