Richard Farnsworth (USA, 1920 – 2000) was aged 79 years 167 days when the Academy nominated him for Best Actor for his role as Alvin Straight in The Straight Story (USA 1999) on 15 February 2000. The oldest person to be baptised is Clarence Raymond Kannheiser (USA), who was christened on 11 April 2009 aged 97 years 53 days at St. Patrick Church, Rochelle, Illinois, USA. Clarence was born on 17 Febuary 1912. Clarence was baptised by Father David A. Peck. He also received his first Communion and Confirmation at the same service.
Emma Carrol (USA, b. 18 May 1895) made an hour-long flight in a hot air balloon at Ottumwa, Iowa, USA, on 27 July 2004 at the age of 109 years 70 days.
The oldest person to complete the Hawaiian Ironman is Lew Hollander (USA), who was aged 82 years 129 days when he ran the 2012 Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, USA, on 13 October 2012. Lew completed the course, which consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and a 26.2 mile run, in 16 hr 45 min 52 sec.
The oldest female to complete a marathon was Gladys Burrill (USA) at the age of 92 years 19 days at the Honolulu Marathon in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, on 12 December 2010. Burrill completed the race in 9 hr, 53 min, 16 sec. Burrill was born on 23 November 1918.
The oldest woman to climb the Seven Summits including Kosciuszko is Jeanne Stawiecki (USA, b. 24 June 1950), who completed her last climb (Mt Everest, Nepal) on 22 May 2007, aged 57 years and 36 days. Jeanne is also the First womanto run marathons “and” climb the highest mountains on each of the seven continents. Morton Cohn (USA) is the oldest person to receive a university varsity letter at 78 years 8 days on 28 July 2001. He received the accolade 52 years after excelling at golf for the University of Michigan. Varsity letters are awarded in the US to those who make an outstanding contribution to school life.
