Youngest Oscar nominee for Best Actress

Keisha Castle-Hughes (New Zealand) (b. 24 March 1990) was aged 13 years 309 days when she was nominated for the Best Actress award on 27 January 2004 for her role of Paikea ‘Pai’ Apirana in Whale Rider (NZ/Ger 2002).

She was 11 when she made the film – her first acting role.
