Born on 21 February 1980, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck became the 5th King of Bhutan on 14 December 2006 and, at 31 years old, he is the youngest monarch of a sovereign nation. The Oxford-educated King presides over one of the world’s most isolated countries, a tiny realm in the Himalaya Mountains where progress is measured in terms of “Gross Domestic Happiness”.
