The largest Soul Train dance consisted of 291 participants and was achieved by the Philadelphia Soul Train Line Dancers (all USA), in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, on 13 February 2012. The attempt took 3 1/2 hours to complete.

The Asian giant hornet (Vespa mandarinia) is native to the mountains of Japan and can grow to be 5.5 cm (2.2 in) long, with a wingspan of approximately 7.6 cm (3 in). Its sting is about 0.6 cm (0.25 in) long and can inject a venom so powerful that it dissolves human tissue.

The largest cave-dwelling bat is Bulmer’s fruit bat (Aproteles bulmerae), native to Papua New Guinea. Adult females have a wingspan of around 1 m (3 ft 3 in), and weigh approximately 600 g (21 oz). It was known to science only from 9,000-year-old fossils until 1977, when some modern-day preserved specimens were unexpectedly uncovered in a museum. Living specimens were later discovered in a huge cave within western Papua’s Hindenburg mountain range.

The largest space hopper race was achieved by 771 participants at an event organised by Yorkshire Cancer Research, Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity and Cavendish Cancer Care (all UK) at the Don Valley Grass Bowl in Sheffield, England, UK, on 25 July 2010. The event raised £50,000 for the three charities.

The world’s largest known spider is a male goliath bird-eating spider (Theraphosa blondi) collected by members of the Pablo San Martin Expedition at Rio Cavro, Venezuela in April 1965. It had a record leg-span of 28 cm (11 in) – sufficient to cover a dinner plate. This species is found in the coastal rainforests of Surinam, Guyana and French Guiana, but isolated specimens have also been reported from Venezuela and Brazil.
