The record for the longest wakeboarding marathon is 6 hr 17 min and was set by Ian Taylor (UK) who wakeboarded behind a cable tow at Whitecap Leisure on Willen Lake, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, UK on 1 September 2004. He completed 200 laps of a 860m circuit for a total distance of 172 km. He did not take any restbreaks as he was not sent the marathon guidelines which outlines these.
The longest continuous oil-spill burn at sea is 11 hours 48 minutes and was started deliberately by Elastec/American Marine, Inc. (USA) ) to remove oil spilled as a result of the explosion on board the Deepwater Horizon oil drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico, USA. The burn occurred on 19 May 2010.
The longest, continual, live subtitling for a TV programme lasted for 44 hours. The BBC Broadcast Subtitling Unit (UK) began subtitling the BBC’s live news coverage of the war in Iraq at 3 a.m. on 20 March and finished at 11 p.m. on 21 March 2003. The unit comprised of 12 stenographers working on various shifts at BBC Television Centre, London, UK and via remote access at the stenographer’s homes (all in the UK). The skidmarks made by the jet-powered Spirit of America, driven by Norman Craig Breedlove (USA), after the car went out of control at Bonneville in Utah, USA, on 15 October 1964, was nearly 10 km (6 miles) long. The longest skidmarks recorded on a public road were 290 m (950 ft) long and were left by a Jaguar car involved in an accident on the M1 near Luton, Bedfordshire, UK, on 30 June 1960. The longest cones produced by any species of conifer are those of the sugar pine (Pinus lambertiana), native to the western USA and to Baja California in northwestern Mexico. They range in size from 25 cm to 66 cm, and are 10-13 cm in diameter.
The longest conga on ice involved 353 participants and was achieved by Ice Rink Canary Wharf (UK) in association with Tresor Paris, in Canary Wharf, London, UK, on 12 November 2013. This event was in aid of the Children in Need charity.
The longest contra line was achieved by 2,208 participants at the Riga Technical University of Latvia, in Latvia, on 25 October 2008.
Mt Stromboli, in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the coast of Italy, has been undergoing continuous volcanic eruptions since at least the 7th century BC, when its activity was recorded by Greek colonists. Its regular mild explosions of gas and lava – usually several each hour, have led it to be known as the ‘Lighthouse of the Mediterranean’.

The longest crochet chain measures 130 km (80.78 miles) and was created by Anne Vanier-Drüssel (France). It was presented and measured in Aniane, France, on 14 October 2009. She created the crochet chain between 15 June 2008 and 26 November 2008.
