Longest wooden footbridge

A wooden toll bridge across the Oi River in the middle of Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan measures 897.422 m. (2,944 ft.). Called the Horai Bridge, it was first built in 1867 and was rebuilt in the 1960s because of flooding.

Longest wooden chain

The longest wooden chain measures 254.69 m (835 ft 7 in) and was made from one single piece of wood. It was created by Peter Gwerder (Switzerland) in Schwyz, Switzerland, on 12 July 2012. The chain is composed of 1,506 wooden rings. The original spruce tree trunk which the chain is made of measured 34 meters.

Longest woodblock print

The longest woodblock print measured 151.50 m (497 ft) in length and was created by 80 Students of De Eindhovense Schools (all Netherlands), and exhibited at De Eindhovense School, Eindhoven, Netherlands, on 30 January 2009. The painting was entiteled “Holland and Nicaragua” to create awareness of Eindovens twin city in Nicaragua, Chinandega.

Longest-running instrument rhythm game series

The longest-running series of instrument-based games is GuitarFreaks, which first appeared in arcades in 1999. The most recent version, GuitarFreaks V7 , released in March 2010, was the 19th instalment in the series and features 500 songs. Featured in Guinness World Records Gamers Edition 2011

EA’s NHL series began with NHL Hockey, which was released in August 1991 for the SEGA Genesis and was considered to be the most realistic hockey game of its time. The longest-running episodic video game series lasted 3 years 316 days, achieved by Telltale Games (USA) for the Sam & Max episodic adventures series. The most recent release, “The City that Dares Not Sleep” was on 10 August 2010. Featured in Guinness World Records Gamers Edition 2011

Longest-running comic strip still syndicated

Longest running comic strip still syndicated has been running for over 105 years and is that of The Katzenjammer Kids, Hans and Fritz, created by Rudolph Dirks was first published in the New York Journal on 12 Dec 1897. The strip is now drawn by cartoonist Hy Eisman and is syndicated to 50 newspapers by King Features Syndicate.

Longest-lasting thunderstorms

Supercells are powerful thunderstorms which form around a mesocyclone, a deep, rotating updraft. At up to several kilometres across, they can last several hours, making them the longest-lasting and largest of all thunderstorms. They often occur on the Great Plains of the USA and can spawn tornadoes.

Andrew Wiles (UK), currently at Princeton University in New Jersey, USA, proved Fermat’s Last Theorem in 1995. He showed that xn+yn=zn has no solutions in integers for n being equal to or greater than 3. The theorum was posed by Fermat in 1630, and stood for 365 years.
