The fastest average speed for an overland journey to the South Pole is 21.37 km/h (13.28 mph) for a 2,308-km (1,434.12-mile) expedition by members of the Kazakh Geographic Society (Kazakhstan), between 4 and 8 December 2010. The Antarctic journey took 108 hours on board two modified Toyota Hilux 3L Turbo Diesel cars that ran on “Jet 1A fuel”. The team departed from Novolazarevskaya Station. Hayley Bateup (Australia), Jenna Worlock, Nicola Mocke (both South Africa) and Aline Paterson (USA) paddled across the Florida Strait between Cuba, and Key West, Florida, USA, a time of 25 hr 44 min from 9 to 10 July 2003. As the crow flies, the distance is approximately 180 km (112 miles). They paddled in relay.
