First circumnavigation by aircraft

The earliest flight around the world was by two US Army Douglas DWC seaplanes in 57 “hops” between 6 April and 28 September 1924, beginning and ending at Seattle, Washington, USA. The Chicago was piloted by Lieutenant Lowell H. Smith and Lieutenant Leslie P. Arnold, and the New Orleans by Lieutenant Erik H. Nelson and Lieutenant John Harding (all USA). Their flying time for the 42,398-km (26,345-mile) trip was 371 hr 11 min.

Fastest skateboard speed, standing

The fastest skateboard speed achieved in a standing position is 129.94 km/h (80.74 mph) and was achieved by Mischo Erban (Canada), at Les Éboulements, Quebec, Canada, on 18 June 2012. The record attempt took place on the road descending to the St. Lawrence River port of Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive, the departure point for ferries to L’Isle-aux-Coudres. The road is noted for being dangerously steep, in points descending at an 18% grade.

Fastest lugeing speed

Tony Benshoof (USA) reached a speed of 139.39 km/h (86.6 mph) on the 2002 Olympic track at Park City, Utah, USA, on 16 October 2001. The speed was reached during training for the 2001 Luge World Cup Series. Benshoof was a member of the USA 2001/02 Luge Team and participated at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City. Timing was done using a ‘speed trap’ consisting of timing lights spaced 5 m apart.

The fastest journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats by unicycle was 6 days 8 hr 43 min achieved simultaneously by Sam Wakeling and Roger Davies (both UK) from 12-19 September 2009. The duo rode to raise funds and awareness for ‘Wake Up! Uganda,’ a charity working for community development and education in Uganda. The attempt was also ratified by the Land’s End John O’Groats Association.

Per Olsen scored 2 seconds after the start of the match for Rungsted against Odense in the Danish First Division at Horsholm, Denmark on 14 Jan 1990. Three goals in 10 seconds was achieved by Jorgen Palmgren Erichsen for Frisk v. Holmen in a junior league match in Norway on 17 March 1991.

The fastest caravan tow is 228.523 km/h (141.998 mph) and was achieved by Jason Sands (USA) driving a GMC 2500HD and towing a standard Carson Kalispell at El Mirage Dry Lake, California, USA, on 23 August 2012. The only modification to the caravan was uprated tyres, the wheels and all other components were unchanged.

Boston Bruins at Boston on March 22, 1984, and Alexander Mogilny (Russia) for the Buffalo Sabers v. Toronto Maple Leafs at Toronto on December 21, 1991.
