His 39th and 40th, which took him past the previous record of 38 held jointly by former Real striker Hugo Sánchez (Mexico) and ex-Athletic Bilbao striker Telmo Zarra (Spain), came in the 4th and 77th minutes of Real Madrid’s 8–1 demolition of Almeria (Spain) in the season finale at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, Madrid, Spain, on 21 May 2011.
