Most gold medals won consecutively at the Olympics by an individual (male)

The only Olympians to win four consecutive individual titles in the same event are Al Oerter (USA), discus 1956-68 and Carl Lewis (USA), long jump 1984-96. Paul Bert Elvstrom (Denmark) also won four successive gold medals at monotype yachting events, 1948-60, but there was a class change (1948 Firefly class, 1952-60 Finn class).

Raymond Clarence Ewry (USA) won both the standing long jump and the standing high jump at four games in succession, 1900, 1904, 1906 and 1908. This is if the Intercalated Games of 1906, which were staged officially by the International Olympic Committee (but no longer recognised by them), are included.
