Largest popcorn mosaic

The largest popcorn mosaic measures 100 sq metres (1,076.39 sq ft) and was created by nine artists on behalf of Business Russia to celebrate ’10 years of Popcorn in Russia’, in Moscow, Russia on 16 December 2001. The popcorn replicated a famous artwork by KS.Petrov-Vodkin entitled Bathing of a Red Horse.

Largest radio telescope (ring reflector)

The RATAN-600 radio telescope completed in the Northern Caucasus, USSR in 1976 has 895 metal mirror panels mounted in a circle 576 m (1,890 ft) across. The reflecting panels are adjustable to allow radiation to be directed into a point where it is captured by a central cone-shaped reflector that directs it downwards into scientific instruments.

Largest ravioli

The longest ravioli measures 29.28 m (96 ft 1 in) and was achieved by Amway Russia (Russia) in St Petersburg, Russia, on 3 August 2013. The ravioli was 6 cm wide and the filling included chicken and onion.

Largest security lock / padlock

The largest padlock was created by students and teachers of Pavlovo Arts College No. 23, Nizhny Novgorod, Russia and measures 144.3 cm tall, 105 cm wide and 26 cm deep (56.8 in × 41.3 in × 10.2 in). The giant security lock weighs 415.5 kg (916 lb) including the key. There was a crest on top of the padlock but was not included in the overall heigh as it was not an integral part of the padlock.

Largest surface combat ship in active service

Discounting aircraft carriers, amphibious assault ships and submarines, the largest combat ships in the world today are the Russian Kirov Class cruisers. Measuring 252 m long with a beam of 28.5 m, they displace 28,000 tonnes fully loaded and have a top speed of 32 knots (59 km/h). Its main armaments are a variety of missiles for large surface targets and aircraft.

Largest swap of spies since the end of the Cold War

On 27 June 2010, a group of 10 Russian “sleeper” agents, who had been spying for the Russian Federation’s External Intelligence Agency (SVR), were arrested in New York, USA. Largest torpedo

The Russian Type 65, a 65-cm (25.5-in) diameter torpedo, carries a warhead of 450 kg (992 lb) of conventional explosive, or a 15-kiloton nuclear warhead – giving it slightly less explosive power than the bombs that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. It can home in acoustically on the turbulence left in the wake of a ship more than 50 miles away and can close at more than 43.5 knots (50 mph) – far in excess of the speed of the fastest surface ships.

Largest wolf pack

In the winter of 2010-11, a “super pack” of wolves numbering up to 400 reportedly terrorized the Russian town of Verkhoyansk (population 1,300) in northern region of Yakutia, one of the remotest inhabited areas in the northern hemisphere. More than 30 horses were killed in just four days, according to local officials, and teams of hunters were established to patrol neighbourhoods and shoot the wolves on sight.
