Fastest speed recorded for a battleship

The US Iowa-class battleships were powered by eight fuel oil boilers and four propellers, delivering 212,000 shaft horsepower. In 1968, during a shakedown cruise, the Iowa-class USS New Jersey achieved a top speed of 35.2 knots (65.2 km/h) which it sustained for six hours. As part of a brutal test of the ship’s engines, the captain then ordered the ship to go instantly from “all ahead flank” to “all back emergency”. New Jersey took some two miles to come to a stop.

The fastest speed reached in a wing suit is 363 km/h (225.6 mph) and was achieved by Shinichi Ito (Japan) over Yolo County, California, USA, on 28 May 2011. Mr Ito was equipped with full HALO (High Altitude, Low Opening) equipment, ‘Gamine Colorado 300’ GPS, ‘Altitrack’ Skydiving computer and ‘Vampire 3’ wing suit manufactured by Phoenix Fly Inc. The jump started from an altitude of 9,753.6 m (32,000 ft).

Fastest sport stacking individual cycle stack

The fastest sport stacking individual cycle stack is 5.93 seconds and was achieved first by Steven Purugganan (USA) at the WSSA Greater Cleveland Ohio Sport Stacking Championships Cleveland, Ohio, USA, on 3 January 2009. This was equalled by Mason Langenderfer (USA) at the 2011 WSSA Upper Atlantic Regional Sport Stacking Championships in Rochester, New York, USA, on 29 January 2011. 

Fastest steam car (FIA approved)

The fastest FIA-approved steam car is the “Inspiration”, designed by the British Steam Car Team, which reached 225.05 km/h (139.84 mi/h), driven by Charles Burnett III (USA) at Edwards Airbase, California, USA, on 25 August 2009. Fastest string/can stilt walking – 50m

The fastest 50 m on can and string stilts was 9.7 sec by Steven Bell (USA) in Cuero, Texas, USA, on 4 August 2010. The attempt was completed on a local athletics track, where Bell used string and canned chicken cans to break the previous record by more than 2.5 sec. Bell was witnessed by pastor Glen R. Moore, Jr., and managing editor of The Cuero Record, Coy Slavik.

Fastest streamlined motorcycle speed (female)

The fastest streamlined motorcycle speed for a female rider is 229.92 kmh (142.86 mph) and was achieved by Erin Hunter (USA) on Jack Costella’s “Nebulous Theorem IV” motorcycle at the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah, USA, on 3 September 2010. The speed represents the average of two passes on the track in opposing directions. This is an official FIM record.
