Largest stick bomb

The largest stick bomb consists of 9,911 sticks and was created by MegaHouse Corporation (Japan). It was presented and activated at the International Tokyo Toy Show 2012 in Koto, Tokyo, Japan, on 14 June 2012. Since tongue depressors are not commonly used in Japan, MegaHouse Corporation used its own product to attempt this record. They first used 10,000 sticks, but some did not get activated, so the final count of sticks that “exploded” became 9,911.

Largest steelpan / steel drum

The largest steelpan is the elliptical “Jomoline” which measures 104 cm (3 ft 4 in) wide and 84 cm (2 ft 9 in) tall. It was created by Jomo Wahtuse (Trinidad and Tobago) and presented and measured in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on 12 November 2010. The instrument has 30 segmented chambered notes and has a tonal range from D-5 to G-3. The width of its skirt is 18 cm (7 in).

Largest string instruments ensemble

The largest string ensemble consisted of 858 players from Hillsborough County String Teachers and Students (all USA) at Williams Middle Magnet School in Tampa, Florida, USA, on 11 May 2011. Participants played Pachelbel’s “Canon in D” on violin, viola, cello and bass.

Largest streetball tournament

The largest streetball tournament consisted of 7,296 participants in the Adult Male division of Spokane Hoopfest 2009 in Spokane, Washington, USA from 27-28 June 2009. Hoopfest is an annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament comprised of 26,656 total players on 6,725 teams across 23 different tournament divisions. Spokane Hoopfest celebrated its 20th anniversay in 2009, organised by the Spokane Hoopfest Association. Largest structure in the universe

A team of astronomers led by Richard Gott III and Mario Juric (both USA) of Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey, USA, have discovered a huge wall of galaxies some 1.37 billion light years long. They used data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, which is mapping the locations of one million galaxies in the universe. Their discovery was announced in October 2003. Dubbed the ‘Sloan Great Wall’, this structure consists of an unusually dense concentration of galaxies within the filamentary large-scale structure of the universe.

Largest structure built by a terrestrial animal

The largest structure built by an animal is that of a beaver’s lodge and dam. Beavers (Castor canadensis) of North America use mud, wood, vegetation and stones to dam up water to form a pond and then build a lodge for winter refuge. The largest lodge ever recorded was 12.1 m (40 ft) across and 4.8 m (16 ft) high and the longest beaver dam ever recorded measured 1.5 km (0.9 miles) long. The largest sushi mosaic is 37.57 m² (404.40 ft²) and was created by Itacho Sushi (Hong Kong) at the Festival Walk in Hong Kong, China, on 8 January 2014. The record was attempted as part of Itacho & Itamae Sushi’s 10th Anniversary celebrating ceremony and the design “10” implicated the chained restaurant will keep moving towards perfect 10. Largest surface combat ship in active service

Discounting aircraft carriers, amphibious assault ships and submarines, the largest combat ships in the world today are the Russian Kirov Class cruisers. Measuring 252 m long with a beam of 28.5 m, they displace 28,000 tonnes fully loaded and have a top speed of 32 knots (59 km/h). Its main armaments are a variety of missiles for large surface targets and aircraft.

The largest Superman dance involved 897 participants and was achieved by Thomas Adams School and Sixth Form College (UK) in Wem, Shropshire, UK, on 8 November 2013. The record attempt was organised as part of a school charity event. All participants wore either neon clothing or Superman outfits. The dance lasted 3 minutes 28 seconds.
