Highest voltage from a potato battery

The highest voltage from a potato battery is 538.1 Volt DC and was achieved by the Verband Soester Ingenieure VSI e.V. (all Germany) during the Campus-Summernight Party at the University of Soest, in Soest, Germany, on 18 July 2009.

The record was achieved using 1,000 potatoes of the variety Velox new potatoes. The potatoes were arranged on a wooden frame with one zinc and one copper nail in each potato, connected in a closed circuit. the voltmeter was calibrated by independent professionals of the German Federal Calibration Office. The volt metre was calibrated with a direct current source of 400 volts. The calibration range was between -1,000 and +1,000 volts.
