Victoria Cross – double award recipients

The only three men ever to have been awarded a bar to the Victoria Cross (instituted 29 Jan 1856) are: Surg.-Capt. (later Lt-Col.) Arthur Martin-Leake VC*, VD, RAMC (1874–1953) (1902 and bar 1914). Capt. Noel Godfrey Chavasse VC*, MC, RAMC (1884–1917) (1916 and bar posthumously 1917). Second-Lt. (later Capt.) Charles Hazlitt Upham VC*, NZMF (1908–94) (1941 and bar 1942).

Undefeated heavyweight world champion, Boxing

Rocky Marciano (USA) (b. Rocco Francis Marchegiano) (1923-69) is the only world champion at any weight to have won every fight of his entire completed professional career, from 17 March 1947-21 September 1955 (he announced his retirement on 27 April 1956); 43 of his 49 fights were by knock-outs or stoppages.

Widest canal

The Cape Cod Canal, which crosses the land that connects Cape Cod to mainland Massachusetts, USA, was constructed between 1909 and 1916. It is 28 km (17.4 miles) long and 164.6 m (540 foot) wide. It is a segment of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, which runs for 4,800 km (3,000 miles) along the eastern coast of the USA.
