At 19 years 297 days Sidney Crosby (Canada, b. 7 August 1987) of the Pittsburgh Penguins (USA) became the youngest player in NHL history to be named team captain. Vincent Lecavalier (Canada) was 27 days older when the Tampa Bay Lightning (USA) appointed him captain for the 2000-01 season.
