Longest audio book

Published on 1 August 2008 by Tokyo Shigesato Itoi Office K.K. (Japan), the audio book “50 Lectures” by Takaaki Yoshimoto (Japan) is 6,943 minutes (115 hours 43 minutes), making it the longest audio book. The audio book contains content from Mr Yoshimoto’s lectures from the 1960’s and 70’s. Yoshimoto is a Japanese poet, literary critic, and philosopher from Tokyo. He is the father of the famous Japanese writer known as Banana Yoshimoto and of the cartoonist Haruno Yoiko.

Longest arm hair

Kenzo Tsuji (Japan) has an arm hair that has grown to a length of 18.90 cm (7.44 in) when measured at Tokyo University of the Arts, in Taito, Tokyo, Japan, on 22 October 2012. Kenzo who is 63 years old, has few arm hairs grown around 12 to 13 cm every summer, and in 2012 he carefully grew the arm hair for the record attempt.

Longest book series – travel guides

The longest series of published travel guides is the ‘Rurubu’ series which, as at 2 November 2010, consisted of 3791 editions. Rurubu has been published continuously by JTB Publishing (Japan) since August 1984. Rurubu began modestly, publishing four editions in 1984. It expanded rapidly and was publishing more than 100 titles a year by 1993.

Longest breakdance hand wave

The longest breakdance hand wave involved 7,014 participants and was achieved by Nana Mizuki fan club S.C. NANA NET (Japan) at the Tokyo Big Site, Tokyo, Japan, on 21 November 2009. Nana Mizuki is a Japanese pop singer and voice actress. Her fan club members tried three record attempts at the concert. For this record attempt, 7,014 people in the audience successfully completed the hand wave.

Longest bridge, suspension bridge for pedestrians

The Kokonoe Yume bridge was opened on 30 October 2006 by the Kokonoe town government. The bridge is the longest suspension bridge for pedestrians in the world, spanning a length of 390 m (1279 ft). There is a separate record for longest wooden footbridge set by the Horai Bridge located in the Shizuoka prefecture in Japan.

The main span of the Akashi-Kaikyo road bridge linking Honshu and Shikoku, Japan, is 1,990.8 m (6,532 ft) or (1.24 miles) long. The overall suspended length with side spans totals 3,911.1 m (12,831 ft 8 in or 2.43 miles). Two towers rise 297 m (974 ft 5 in) above water level and the two main supporting cables are 1,122 mm (44 in) in diameter, making both tower height and cable diameter world records. Longest cake roll

The longest roll cake measured 115.09 m (521 ft 11 in) and was made by Shotengai Shinkokumiai Takasaki Chubu Meitengai and Takasaki Chuoginza Shotengai Shinkokumiai (both Japan) in Takasaki, Gunma, Japan, on 19 November 2011. The cake was decorated with 100kg of whipped cream, 10kg of sugar, 45g of gold powder and other ingredients.

Longest career as a computer software developer

Kaneyuki Yamaguchi (Japan, b. 23 July 1945) has been working as computer software developer since 30 March 1964. On the date of the record achievement, Kaneyuki Yamaguchi’s career spanned 46 years 2 months 19 days. He worked for ITOCHU Corporation from 30 March 1964 to 31 March 1998. On 13 January 1999 he founded his own software development company, IS22 Corporation, and has continued in the role of Director ever since.

Longest career as editor-in-chief of an educational magazine

The longest career as an editor-in-chief for the same educational magazine is 53 years 110 days, achieved by Mitsuru Ebe (Japan) for ‘Gendai Kyoiku Kagaku’ who held the position continuously between the first issue in April 1958 and July 2011. Mr Ebe has served as editor-in-chief of ‘Gendai Kyoiku Kagaku’ (Modern Education Science) since the first day of publication on 12 April 1958. He retired from the position on 31 July 2011 at the age of 81.
