The largest origami lei measured 5,700 m (18,700 ft 9.44 in) in length and was created by Saint-Care Holding corporation (Japan), at the Ishinomaki Sogo Centre ‘Big Bang’, in Ishinomaki, Miyagi prefecture, Japan, on 19 November 2011. The largest parade of alternative fuel powered vehicles consited of 300 cars and was achieved by Consumers Co-Operative Sapporo (Japan) in Tomakomai, Hokkaido, Japan, on 26 September 2010. All the vehicles used by CO-OP Sapporo’s home delivery service are biodiesel trucks. They collect and use old vegetable oils used for tempura.

Largest plastic advertising hoarding

The largest plastic advertising hoarding measures 165.95 m (544 ft 5 in) long, 27,59 m (90 ft 6 in) tall and was created by Meiji Seika Kaisha Ltd. (Japan). It was presented and measured at the Meiji Seika Kaisha Factory in Osaka, Japan, on 8 February 2011. The hoarding is in the shape of a chocolate bar, entitled “Big Milch”. Milch is German for milk.

The largest serving of fried chicken weighed 1,076 kg (2,372 lb 2.72 oz) and was produced by NOAS FM (Japan) at the 4th Karaage Festival at AEON Mall Sanko in Nakatsu City, Oita, Japan, on 23 September 2011. Karaage is a Japanese fried chicken dish that uses boneless chicken and a potato starch batter. It is becoming increasingly popular in some parts of the western United States where it is colloquially referred to as ‘JFC’ (Japanese Fried Chicken).

The Asian giant hornet (Vespa mandarinia) is native to the mountains of Japan and can grow to be 5.5 cm (2.2 in) long, with a wingspan of approximately 7.6 cm (3 in). Its sting is about 0.6 cm (0.25 in) long and can inject a venom so powerful that it dissolves human tissue.
